About us - the short version

Welcome to Kirmiray Studios.

I’ve called Melbourne home for 20+ years, but I grew up in Nepal. After years in a fast-paced corporate career, motherhood in 2020 shifted everything. In the quiet, bittersweet hours of birthing during lockdown, I promised to show up stronger & the best version my daughter deserves.

As time passed, her toy and book library filled with English effortlessly, but I longed for playful ways to introduce Nepali. So when I searched, I found almost nothing - no joyful, research-backed tools that supported early development while being interactive for children and meaningful for grown-ups. That realisation became the spark for Kirmiray Studios.

In Nepal, books are often seen as homework, not playtime.

We’re here to change that.

Our mission is simple: to make bilingual (Nepali / English / Romanised Nepali) learning natural, joyful, and functional, helping children fall in love with books, stories, and early learning from birth. Because the love for reading (and language) begins long before a child learns to read; it begins in connection.

At Kirmiray, we believe the first five years are sacred. They’re when little brains wire for empathy, curiosity, and confidence. Research shows that babies exposed to language and storytelling from infancy develop stronger emotional bonds and literacy later in life (Harvard Center on the Developing Child, 2023).

No forceful 'back in our days' lessons, that invite their eye-rolls. Just playful tools that spark curiosity and invite grown-ups to join in, building stronger bonds through shared moments of learning and connection.
